No freedom without freedom of the press
30 years of Reporters Without Borders in Germany
The German section of the organization “Reporters Without Borders (RSF)” will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2024. Initiated by the center's promotional society and curated by photo editor Barbara Stauss, "Reporters Without Borders" will show a photo exhibition from May 4, 2024 in the Museum Center for Persecuted Arts in Solingen with works by six international photojournalists who reported from countries such as Myanmar and Belarus, Colombia, China, Rwanda and Egypt.
“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” – Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations (December 1948)
Where independent reporting is not permitted and where people cannot express their opinions freely, other human rights are also violated. Therefore, the freedom to inform and be informed is always a reliable indicator of the democratic conditions in a country. The exhibition would like to emphasize the special importance of independent media for a plural and free society and point out that freedom of the press is not a given, but a valuable asset that must be protected.
Reporters Without Borders documents violations against freedom of press and information worldwide and informs the public when journalists and their employees are in danger. Reporters Without Borders fights online and offline against censorship and restrictive media laws. Reporters Without Borders provides emergency aid for persecuted journalists and their families. The aim is to help those being persecuted so that they can continue or resume their journalistic activities.
The german association Reporter ohne Grenzen, founded in Berlin in 1994, is part of the international organization Reporters sans frontières, founded in 1985 and headquartered in Paris. Since the year it was founded, Reporters Without Borders has published the volume “Photos for Press Freedom” on May 3rd, the International Press Freedom Day. Internationally renowned photographers make their work available and the proceeds finance the independent association. 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the German section and the photo book.
The photobook 2024 will be published on Mai 3 and can be ordered here: shop.reporter-ohne-grenzen.de
The exhibition at the Museum Center for Persecuted Arts illustrates how important support is for journalists at risk. In addition to all 30 volumes of the “Photos for Freedom of the Press” series, a historical section with objects from the museum’s collection shows how artists work against censorship and for freedom of expression, even against murderous regimes. In the main part of the exhibition, current works by six international photographers reflect the struggle for truth in words and images. Their photos occured in various editions of “Photos for Press Freedom”.
At the opening on May 4, 2024, in addition to the curator Barbara Stauss, photo book editor-in-chief Gemma Pörzgen and the new management of Reporters Without Borders, Anja Osterhaus and Maik Thieme were present. Also the photographers Miguel Angel Sánchez and Nuria Tesón, Anoek Steketee and Violetta Savchits took part in the event.

What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
